Alexis’ Cross

    My angel child

Alexis is my youngest daughter, but she is no longer with me here on earth, but she remains my baby. She took a bit after me which obviously meant that she was quite the handful (haha). She was born on the 7th of May 2004 and she graduated to heaven on the 6th of September 2009…she was 5 years old. This year, she would have been 14 years old. I can’t believe how much time as passed already!

So, this being her birthday today, I decided to do a feature about her and the cross I created that was inspired by her. In order for you to understand, I will need to give you a bit of the inside scoop on my precious angel child.

From the age of 3 already, she used to walk around the yard, looking up at the heavens, singing the same words over and over again. As far as I could tell, it wasn’t from any specific song. When she passed away at the age of 5 years old, she was still doing and singing the same song with the same words. I actually thought that she would become a singer/songwriter like me because she had those tendencies. Her death was a shock to us all, even though she had been ill for 2 years already.

Alexis contracted an illness called Aplastic Anemia when she was 3 years old. She fought it for 2 years and lost the battle. I’m not going to give you the whole story of her illness  and her journey, but it was quite the battle. We did, however, think that she was going to win the battle, in fact we never even thought that she may not make it, especially as she was only 2 weeks away from her bone marrow transplant. So, naturally, we were extremely shocked by her passing.

When I was thinking about what to put in her funeral letter, I remembered the words to her song that she was always singing while looking up at heaven…I know that she is there, probably talking Jesus’ ears off.

Her words were these:

“Jesus is in my heart and my heart is a flower”

I decided to create something depicting this. First I have the large cross symbolizing ‘Jesus’. Then I added a medium sized heart onto the cross symbolizing ‘is in my heart’ and inside the heart I placed a flower which symbolizes ‘and my heart is a flower’.

Alexis’ older sister, Storm, misses her madly, just like we all do, but she is probably loving it in heaven because now she can have friends and be a normal child.

Happy birthday my angel child! I love you to the moon and back!

That’s it from me for now…

Enjoy the moments
