My Writers Toolbox

I know that different writers have different things in their ‘toolbox’, but mine is quite simple actually.

Firstly, I have a writing journal which I use when I am not in front of my computer and inspiration hits or when I have different ideas that I need to jot down somewhere. I use an A5 Wire bound notebook, like the one I use for my Social Media Marketing. The pen that I use is basically any pen that I have near me and that’s working. When I do write in my journal, I use long hand because I don’t want to have to sit and decipher what I meant later on. I write quite quickly, so this is not a problem for me.

The laptop that I use is a very basic laptop that I bought through my banking institution which allowed me to pay it off (which, by the way, I finished paying last month! Whoo hoo!). It’s an Acer Aspire ES 15. I added more memory to the laptop last year. Even though it’s a very basic laptop, I work well on it and I’m quite happy with it currently.

The writing software that I use is a mixture of Microsoft Word and Scrivener. Scrivener is an awesome writing program, even though it is quite a difficult program to navigate. You also have to pay for it and you can get it through Literature and Latte.

To help me plan my chapters, I bought myself blue blank ‘business cards’. I wrote the chapter on it and then an overview of what’s going to happen in the chapter. This is on the wall in front of me.

I also use the Task planner that I created to assist with the details of my book, mind mapping, a writing tracker to help me keep on track with my writing and blank project plan pages to help draw any book covers that I want to do.

I have little ‘posters’ in front of me that have valuable information on different words you can use to describe things and what words to use instead of other words. Pinterest is a good place to find these.

In my toolbox, I also have my family. They are wonderful and are my support system. My husband and daughter are my biggest fans and cheerleaders. I love them to bits! My Mom is also my hero and I love the way that she’s always amazed when I do something. I love her very much too.

Well…that’s what’s in my toolbox. If you are a writer and you have other interesting things in your toolbox, please share it below, I would love to hear what you have.

That’s it from me for now…
