Music to write to…

What do I listen to while I write?

I know there are writers out there that like to listen to classical music or even their normal music, but I am unable to do so.

I am a music person and because of this, I can’t have music playing that has singing in it and then try and write because I will be listening to the words of the song and most likely singing with it too and then…well, then my writing will go out the window.

It took me a while to find something to write to and I wondered if it’s even necessary, but once I found the perfect sound for me, I realized that I wrote better when I had this playing because I tuned the world out and focused on what I was doing.

When I was deciding what to use, we had a rain storm one night and I was writing with the rain and thunder in the background and I wrote 1500 words without even noticing it. I then remembered that I am most productive when it’s cold, cloudy and raining.

With this knowledge on hand, I went looking for the perfect backtrack to my writing and found it and downloaded it. Now I listen to this every time I write. I also use it when I’m editing someone’s work. It helps me focus and it tricks my brain into believing that there is a storm outside.
