Onyx is a translucent chalcedony which usually consists of straight, parallel bands and is coloured black and white in alternating layers. However, these days, the Onyx stones are available in pure black as they are heated and polished.

It has been said that it is also one of the stones that was used in the breastplate of the ancient high priest in Bible times.

The Onyx is a strong stone and does not easily break when dropped (not like Obsidian). There are many stories surrounding the Onyx stone, but none have been said to be the actual correct story.
