Writing prompt challenge

Debbie had been to hell and back in her life and yet she was still standing. After escaping from Brandon’s grip and then running away to Forks in Washington State from Los Angeles, Debbie believed that she could hideaway in this quaint town. She had made sure to stay under the radar for a year in order to make sure that Brandon didn’t find her but now she needed to move on with her life and also follow her career path. She was sure that he had moved on and forgotten about her and she was no longer in danger.

I still wake up in a cold sweat many nights from dreaming about Brandon and how I was inches from death when the neighbours intervened with his last beating tirade. I never went home after that, I simply disappeared. I had told no one where I was going because I’d watched too many movies to know that they might give you away, even if it’s by accident.

It’s a year later and I could finally apply for a marketing position at a company in Port Angeles. I love marketing and, in the year that I did small jobs in order to survive, I had also been keeping my marketing knowledge up to date with the trends. I wanted to knock their socks off at this interview.

I did research on the company and gathered a few ideas that I could showcase to them. I hope they will be impressed. I spent almost a whole week prepping for the interview. I also had to go and buy a suit as I had left everything at my ex’s house when I ran.

On the morning of my interview, I got dressed with precision, took time doing my hair professionally and did my makeup perfectly. After all, attention to detail is key. When I was satisfied with my appearance, I left. It would be a bit of a drive, but I believed it would be worth it. This company stood for the ideals and principles that I hold dear and that’s the type of company I wanted to work for…one I believe in.

I could not have known, as I climbed in my car to leave, that this day would change my life as I knew it.
