Synopsis

(From Goodreads)

Fashion buyer Shea Walker had a fast track lifestyle until a car accident sidelines her to a painful recovery. Seeking quiet for the holidays, Shea returns to the snowy mountains where she grew up to make peace with her past and spend time with her estranged family. She never expected old flame J.C. Royce—now a hockey star—would return to their hometown, too.

After weathering a tough year, J.C. sees Shea’s arrival in Cloud Spin, Vermont, as a holiday miracle after the way he broke things off with her long ago. JC hopes that Shea will give him another chance to explore the chemistry still simmering between them. When two hearts with a history have a chance to reconnect at Christmas, will love get one last shot?

My Thoughts

The story was quite inspirational as it is about making peace with your past. Joanne’ writing style was quite good and her intimate scenes were not over the top which I appreciated. I became committed to the story and characters completely by the second or third page and then I didn’t want to stop reading.

I loved the storyline and the love and family that was weaved into it. I loved the surroundings and how it all came about. I read this book in a day. I could feel the Protagonist’s pain with her lack of relationship with her dad and her painful past experience with her first love. Joanne wrote it in such a way that I felt the same distrust of love.

The dialogue was well written for the genre. I liked the varying POV’s between the two main characters, Shea and J.C. I enjoyed the flirtatious dialogue between them and the playful banter. I liked the stubbornness and quiet strength of Shea and how open J.C is. I also enjoyed how naturally protective he is of Shea.

Even though this book is part of a series, the story ends completely. The next book in the series is written with other characters. I love these types of series. The theme of the book was about reconciliation, forgiveness and mending the past. I enjoyed the theme because it is very important to not hold grudges because they poison you.

The plot of the story was believable and this type of thing happens often in the real world. I liked how the characters dealt with it. All in all, a good story.
