Synopsis

(From Goodreads)

Hi, there! Would YOU like to take a peek in my diary?
Wait, we haven’t been introduced. My name is Fern, and by some wonderful stroke of good luck, I live in the beautiful, tropical Florida Keys.

My life is wacky, often wild, and always entertaining. From my love-hate relationship with the book, The Secret, to my encounters with cursing parrots and skittering crabs, the summations of my offbeat life will make you laugh right along with me.

It is a particularly exciting year because I finally meet the man of my dreams! Or is he?

This fast-paced story is an intimate look inside my life as I go all-in and hand over the keys to my diary. Go ahead…Take a PEEK!

My Thoughts

I didn’t enjoy the diary thing as much as what I thought I would. I have read diary style books before and enjoyed it thoroughly but I struggled with this one. The storyline was okay. I got more irritated than anything else. I didn’t ever feel like I can’t put the book down. I had to force myself to keep reading.

This story had great potential but it feels like it fell flat on its face. The protagonist didn’t seem to have a personality. She just wanted sex and her man the whole time. It got a bit much. There’s no real story here. Just a memoir to a guy named Mac and how he made a woman feel.

The whole story is about how she feels about Mac, how she missed him when they not together and how he makes her feel. It’s like her life only revolves around him. I didn’t relate to the protagonist because I didn’t get much info on her and her hopes and dreams. I basically just know that she wants a man, a job and a place to stay. No future plans. She gets all annoyed when he arranges something for her at work, like she’s a feminist but he is 90% of what she talks about. Fern is supposedly 42 years old and not going anywhere fast. She talks and acts like a teenager and it was hard to feel anything but irritation towards her.

Fern keeps mentioning to be positive but she keeps whining like a teenager that just started their period. I liked the characters names. They were funny and quirky. The other characters were not really discussed too much, except for her BFF Marina that has a cheating husband. A warning, the sex scenes are on the graphic side so if they make you uncomfortable then maybe you should skip it because there’s a lot of it.

The book is part of a series. I liked that the book actually ended and you don’t get left on a cliffhanger. The next book of the series is someone else’s diary. The plot was believable but it is a very simple plot. The whole thing about the TV show meant nothing to moving the story forward and should have been axed.
