Synopsis
(From Goodreads)
When life couldn’t get anymore confusing, fate steps in and throws a curveball.
Rae Kerrigan should be ecstatic. She’s found her mother and Devon has admitted he wants nothing more than to be with her. Except Jennifer, her mentor, was someone she thought she could trust and it turns out she was after Rae for the same reason as Lanford had tried her first year at Guilder.
There is a new face for the enemy now. Jonathon Cromfield. Except he’s not really new, is he?
Rae must go charging head first into danger in order to protect the ones she loves and like her father, no one is going to stand in her way.

My Thoughts
I still enjoyed the writing style of May. You can read more details on my thoughts about it from my review of her first book called Rae of Hope. I won’t be repeating certain things and you can go read them there if you haven’t done so already. I did become committed to the story quickly because it follows on from the previous book in the series. I have to admit though, I am glad to take a break from these characters. I won’t be buying the other six books in the series just yet.
The storyline kept me on the edge of my chair. May definitely knows how to whirl up suspense, intrigue, romance and friendship in a book. The twists and turns are great. The story kept me guessing most of the time. I have a feeling that Ellie is Jennifer’s child, but I will have to read on to know that for sure. The suspense was brought about brilliantly and the way the story ended was agonizingly awesome. Just like in Rae of Hope, Dark Nebula, House of Cards and Royal Tea, the story kept me guessing most of the time. If you would like to read more about my thoughts on the world that the author created, then you can read my previous posts on this series, especially Rae of Hope.
Rae has grown up nicely and her powers are not to be trifled with. I related to her on a level on wanting to trust people but being wary of them due to past hurt. As always, the dialogue between the male and female characters is different which is good as it would be boring if it was the same for each character. They all have their own voice. It’s easy to follow and brings the image across in my head quite effortlessly.
I really love Rae’s mom. I hope she eventually comes into her own again. I enjoyed all the characters and I hope that Rae and Kerrigan can make peace. Maybe in a perfect world. It ended on a cliffhanger of note. I honestly wasn’t going to carry on reading the series as I get bored with reading about the same characters and from the same characters POV, especially after six books but how can I just leave it that way now? Well done May!
