Synopsis

(From Goodreads)

#1 New York Times bestselling author Joyce Meyer takes us on a journey through the wisdom of Proverbs to leave us transformed and equipped to face daily choices and challenges.
The book of Proverbs is a treasure trove of both spiritual and practical wisdom that gives us what we need to guide our steps each and every day. Knowledge is important, but if it isn’t turned into action, it fails to help us on an earthly level. Because of this, it is important to gain understanding of the seven foundational principles frequently seen in Proverbs:

Wisdom,
Understanding,
Prudence,
Knowledge,
Discretion,
Discernment, and
Fear of the Lord.

If we desire to have these qualities, we must make a commitment to slow down. We will need to stop multi-tasking and learn to enjoy times of solitude and blessed quiet. We must give sincere thought regarding action to be taken, remembering that each action produces a result.

Featuring inspiring questions and space for thoughtful reflection, In Search of Wisdom will enlighten you with God’s understanding and teach you the foundational principles and secure God’s help in practicing them.

My Thoughts

I first heard about this book on Joyce Meyers YouTube channel and then I saw it on one of her newsletters too. This is a Christian nonfiction book that helps you to study the book of Proverbs and gives you a little Joyce Meyer insight into it. This book affected me in such a profound way. Proverbs is filled with wisdom and verses that you sometimes skim over because you don’t take the time to understand it. Her book forced me to take the time to better understand the book of Proverbs.

I learnt so many valuable lessons from reading this book but one that stood out to me towards the end was about the woman in Proverbs 31. How she gets up very early to make food for her household and goes to bed very late to make clothes for her family. I have been asking God about the fact of sleeping 8 hours a day and if I really have to because I don’t get enough done. I felt this answered me in a small way.

It definitely helped me to grow spiritually because I felt like I understood a few things better than I did before. I also felt closer to God because He spoke to me through many of the verses and then confirmed them in other places. I always want to serve the Lord more vibrantly. I strive for this in my life and this book gave me a few tools to help me get there. Many of the chapters causes me to praise and thank the Lord for His wisdom that He willing gives to us if we will just listen to Him and ask Him for it.

There are too many chapters that changed my view on something and I would be here a long time if I mentioned them all. This book helped me with a lot of different things that I’ve been dealing with in my life which is always what you want out of a book like this. I love Joyce Meyers writing style. She has serious, in your face moments but also has humorous moments and her writing is easy to read. She does not use abstruse language so that people have to read the book with a dictionary.

The book is most definitely biblically sound because it is written according to Proverbs. Joyce just puts it in easier to understand language and reverts back to scripture all the time. I have read many books by Joyce Meyer and am currently reading another two of her books. I find her books make me feel better and help me to understand things that I struggled with before. It has helped me immensely in my walk with God.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that would like to learn more about Proverbs and that would like to know more about wisdom from God. You might not always like what you read, with things like drinking too much, but you will definitely see things in a different and better light after going through this Bible study of Proverbs.
