The Armour Of God

Ephesians 6:10 – 18

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

This is one of the other subjects you hear spoken about a lot as a Christian. Putting on the full armour of God and standing your ground against the enemy. But what does that entail? What is the armour and what do they stand for? I decided to delve deeper into the subject and bring you along with me.

There are six pieces to the armour of God.

#1 The Wide Band Of Truth

It is the integrity that holds everything else together, like the girdle used to hold everything together for a soldier in Paul’s day. If you do not have integrity in the big and small things of your life, you are going to lose the battle.

#2 The Breastplate Of Righteousness

This is a believer’s purity. The enemy wants to attack you with lies and impurity. He wants to get into your heart and mind. He’s looking for a crack in your armour. And he knows exactly where that crack is.

#3 Feet Strapped With The Preparation Of The Gospel Of Peace

This has got to do with a believer’s tranquillity. Satan comes against your tranquillity, he throws out stones and thorns of doubts and discouragement to cause you to stumble or fall. The more at peace you are, the angrier he gets.

#4 The Shield Of Faith

This is the believer’s certainty and protection against disbelief. Satan will always fire flaming arrows of doubt at you and you need to have the shield of faith to protect you. He wants to place subtle doubts in your mind about God and His Truth.

#5 The Helmet Of Salvation

This is the assurance that you are saved. If you have your helmet of salvation on, then nothing can make you doubt that you are a saved child of God. You need to operate with the mind that God gave you.

#6 The Sword Of The Spirit

This is the Word of God. The Word helps you face many things in life and it helps you fight the enemy. God’s Word is also alive and will always make you feel better after reading it. When we are tempted, we can use the Word to fight off the temptation the way Jesus did in the desert.

The armour is something that I need to remember to put on every day. I need to remember that I have resources at my disposal to fight the enemy. I refuse to let him win!

Do you have you full armour on?
