My Thoughts
The writing style was easy to read and follow. A serious edit needs to be done on the book though due to the large amount of spelling and grammar errors and wrong words used. I started reading this story on Facebook and was committed to the story from the get go. I then had to first go searching for the book and where I could buy it. I almost gave up.
The storyline was very good. I enjoyed the fantasy parts, the suspense, the twists and turns, the love story and Lucy’s backstory. That is the only reason I bothered to keep reading this book in such an irritating manner. In fact, the storyline is the only reason this book got a 2 out of 5. The errors and the way I had to read it dropped the rating, otherwise it would have gotten a 5.
The story kept me guessing most of the time. There was always something going on, always moving forward and I almost never knew what was going to happen next. The different plot points were brilliant and the writer is very talented at weaving a fantasy story. The world that the author created was a mix of real and fantasy which is the best kind. The world of vampires, werewolves and witches mixed together in a real world setting of Kings, Queens and Princes.
I felt sorry for Lucy from the get go. She was living with such a cruel family. I enjoyed following her story as she found out who she is and what she’s made of. I also enjoyed watching her relationship with Austin grow. Austin seemed like a lost soul and right from the start I felt like he had a spell on him when it came to Ariana. (I made this note by chapter 20 in the book and I must say, I called it, haha). The dialogue was easy to read but I struggled a bit with the amount of F bombs that were in it, especially when the men were talking, almost every second word was the F word. Also, on the racy scenes the author uses the P word for the female anatomy and I hate that word so I didn’t enjoy that either. The other problem I had was that in the Dreame app, the inverted commas that showed dialogue wasn’t showing the beginning or end of a character’s dialogue, it was straight lines so I had to keep note carefully to make sure to see when someone was talking. The fact that there was no space between the inverted comma and the next word outside the dialogue bubble made it worse. The actual dialogue was easy enough though.
I enjoyed the other characters as they kept the story moving forward. I even enjoyed the bad guys because they did their job well and brought the suspense forward brilliantly. The different families and the vampires and witches were all interesting to watch and see what they would all get up to. I knew Eric and Ariana were evil from the get go and I enjoyed reading about their demise. There was a good twist in the fight scene when Lucy’s dad shows up with back-up. I liked the ending and what the dad’s reason was for giving Lucy up for adoption.
Just to warn you…
You can only read this book on the Dreame.com app and it was very irritating. I also couldn’t buy coins because you can only use your PayPal account to top up the coins, so I used the 20 free coins you get from the app for your daily check in. The whole story used 635 coins which equals about $5.99. If the author just sold the book on Amazon for that amount she would get a lot more sales. There’s a lot if swearing, as I mentioned before and using God’s name in vain. There are also heavy sex scenes and mention of what they would like to do to each other so be warned.
This book is part of a series. It is book 1. But I will not be reading any further as it was the most infuriating way to read. If she ever brings it out on KDP, then I will definitely read her other books. It’s a little silly that the author only has this book and all her other books available only on the Dreame app because you can only read it with PayPal or the daily check in coins that the app gives you. If you don’t have a PayPal account, then it will take you a long time to read a 40 chapter book that would usually be done in a day. Some people wouldn’t bother and this limits your sales drastically. The author is losing a lot of money like this. Just like I will not read any other books from this author or any other author that I see is on the Dreame app, I have seen many people comment the same thing on the book and many stopped reading.
