The Runaway Pastor’s Wife by Diane Moody

Before I get started, let me explain what these blog posts will hold so that I don’t just dump them on you and you get the fright of your life when your email explodes (I apologize in advance for this). When I started this blog, I did ‘My Latest Reading List for Month, Year’ but in those blog posts I mentioned all the books that I had read for the month or a few months. that meant that sometimes I would have between three and eight books in a post.

I read in a post that helps people make their blogs better, that this is a mistake as people cannot find your review and will then not bother reading it between all the other reviews on the posts. The advice was to separate the reviews into their own posts. I went back to take stock and realized that this is not going to be a small feat. Let me tell you why…

There are 10 (yes, TEN!) blog posts. In total there are 57 reviews (yes, I’m also sweating right now). If I had to only do these every Wednesday, which is when I usually put up a blog post, then I will probably only be finished in the year 2024, if that. I do not want this to be my only content for the foreseeable future. So, I made the choice (even though I freaking out about it) to post a blog post every day except a Saturday and Sunday *sweating emoji*.

Now, about these reviews…I was still starting out, so some of them are quite bare and contain very little substance. Fortunately, I can remember the books that I read when I read the blurb and I can embellish on the details a little but it will by no means be anywhere near the way I do reviews now. Please bear with me as I get this mission completed and please don’t leave me, I would really appreciate it if you stayed. We are a community after all.

On the other hand, I do hope that you enjoy the reviews and let me know if you’ve read one of the books and share your views on it too. Let’s start a discussion. Love to all of you and here we go…

About the book

What could possibly drive a pastor’s wife to run away from home? After years of frustration from life in a church fishbowl, Annie McGregor walks away from it all and boards a plane for Colorado. She has no way of knowing her college sweetheart is headed to the same cabin in the Rockies, terrified and gravely wounded. Their unexpected reunion couldn’t have come at a worse time. Or could it? Bewildered that God would allow Michael Dean to walk back into her life, Annie pleads with Him to keep her heart true to her husband and her family. God answers her prayer, but in a way she would never expect. Written by a former pastor’s wife, Annie’s story provides a rare look inside the family life of those in the ministry, particularly the unique pressures on those who marry men of God.

My thoughts

This was a Christian fiction book that I really loved reading. I was kept on the edge of my seat the whole time to see if the pastor’s wife would behave herself, what her husband would do and what would happen next in the story. There were a few twists and turns that I definitely did not expect and was thoroughly surprised. The place that she escaped to seems like a dream come true and I would not mind going there to ‘find’ myself or go on a writing retreat.

I would recommend this book to anyone. Even if you are not a Christian, you will enjoy the storyline that shows how a woman has choices that she needs to make when she’s feeling suffocated in a life she chose. It helps show that everyone is human and we all have something that we dealing with. It is also not a preachy book and has God weaved into the pages instead of preaching at you.

I gave this book a 5/5 star rating.

Rating: 5 out of 5.
