As a self-published author, you can get quite confused and bamboozled by all the legal jargon out there, as well as what your rights are. One of the best things about the self-published industry though is that there are always people out there that are willing to guide you in the right direction and try and give you all the information you may need.
I had help when I first started and I still learn every day. I learn from other blogs and articles on the subjects that I am unsure of and I learn from fellow self-published authors as well as publishers in that industry, like Paper Raven Books.
Make sure to do your research in all the different areas, like ISBN numbers, for example. This will differ in each country. Copyright laws also differ in each country and if you are in South Africa, you may want to copyright your book in the United States because the copyright law in South Africa is becoming almost non-existent and does not protect the author at all. So be sure to do as much research as possible.
There are many things that you need to know about as you can see in the blog with the same title as this one on the Paper Raven Books blog site. You also need to make sure that you have all your contracts in tact with graphic designers, editors, etc.
My final advice, once again, do a lot of research!
