A lot of authors don’t know that Goodreads is now owned by Amazon. That means that if you have your book on Amazon/Kindle, then it will show up on Goodreads.

On Amazon, you need to have bought at least $50 worth of books in order to qualify to review a book. Now, if you’re one of those people that love the hard copy of a book and buy them in a bookshop, then you will not reach that goal on buying e-books. This in turn means that you will not be able to review any books on Amazon itself.

That’s where Goodreads comes in. It is one of the platforms that readers can use to review the books that they’ve read without any limitations. Authors can also reply on reviews and they can even add their readers as ‘friends’ on their profile, if they want to go that route.

Goodreads is a place where you can tell your reader where they can find your books and your web or blog sites. They can be updated if you publish any new books. They can set themselves writing goals, add books to their ‘want to read’ list and interact with you as an author.

I’m sure you can see by now, why having a completed Goodreads Author page is good for you as an author. It helps you to get to know your readers and the other books that they enjoy reading. It’s where you can ask for reviews (very important for authors, I’m sure you know) and ratings on your books. Goodreads also gives the reader the choice to buy your book on Amazon or other stores. This helps the readers to find how to buy your books as well.

I hope that you will be logging onto Goodreads right now and updating your author profile. When you’ve done this, you can copy the link and share it to your readers and ask them to review your books on there.

If you’re a reader and not an author, you can also use Goodreads to find the books you love and also to find books in the genre’s that you love reading. This is also where you can show the authors some love for the books that touched you.
