Due to me being a published poet, many people have asked me what my favourite poem is, so I thought I’d share it with you here. This won’t be a long blog, just a little inside info into my favourites.

The poem is written by Elizabeth Barret Browning. Born in 1806 at Coxhoe Hall, Durham, England, Elizabeth Barrett Browning was a celebrated English poet of the Romantic Movement. She lived from 1806 – 1861, and this poem was written for her husband Robert Browning (also a poet). The poem caused a bit of a stir because the inspiration behind the work was Elizabeth’s love for the man who had ‘rescued her’ from a desperate, reclusive lifestyle that she led in London, following the accidental death of her closest brother.

Elizabeth and Robert exchanged hundreds of love letters over the two years from 1845-46. It is very clear in the letters just how much they adored each other. The poem is called ‘How do I love thee?’.

This poem tells you just how much she loved her husband and it makes my hopeless romantic heart soar.
